How to Invest in Forex With a Robot on Your Own Account
To invest in forex with a robot on your own account you open a broker account in your own name, fund it, and install software that trades it. Nobody else touches the money, and that single difference changes who carries the risk, who can stop the trading and what to understand before starting.

Your own account
Most ways of putting money into a trading strategy involve handing it to someone. A fund, a managed account, a PAMM: the manager trades, you get a statement.
Running an expert advisor is a different shape entirely. The account is opened in your name at a broker you choose, you transfer money into it yourself, and the software runs on a MetaTrader 4 terminal you control. What you buy is a licence to use a program, not a service that looks after money.
That is also the honest version of the trade-off. There is no manager to blame and no manager to stop you: the decisions are yours, including the decision to leave it running through a bad month.
What you set up
- A broker account in your name, with MetaTrader 4 and a leverage the strategy can work with.
- A VPS, so the terminal stays online. In the EURUSD Patient simulation (2010–2025, Dukascopy data) the strategy held open exposure through almost the whole period, so an offline terminal is not a neutral state.
- The expert advisor and its set files: you choose one to four pairs — EURUSD, GBPUSD, EURCAD and AUDCAD — then Patient, Active or both for each, and each chart loads its own preset at your licence level. Patient adds to a basket less often and holds a smaller worst case; Active adds more often, returned more in the backtest and reached a larger worst case.
- The capital that level was sized against, which is the part people skip.
None of that requires learning to trade. It does require being willing to read a drawdown figure and decide whether you can live with it.
The number that decides
A grid without a stop loss carries its losses as open positions. The relevant question is not the average return; it is how far under water the account goes at the worst moment, because that is what you have to sit through without closing everything in a panic.
In the simulations (2010 to September 2026, Dukascopy data, euros at fixed rates), K3 at Horizon level had a worst floating loss of €3,704 on 22 October 2012 — and our reference figure is €22,500 for it; K1 at Horizon floated −€4,701 on 14 February 2011 — and our reference figure is €28,800, in both cases the reference figures of their records added up. Summit multiplies both sides by five and Zenith by ten.

How Kestrel applies this
Kestrel EA is a grid expert advisor for MetaTrader 4: it opens from its own signal, adds to the basket in small, capped steps when price moves against it, and closes the whole basket together at its target. It never closes a single trade at a loss; until the basket closes, the loss is floating.
Like the kestrel that hangs still in the wind, it waits, holds and closes once — but the decision to keep it running through a month like April 2015, which closed −€1,301 on the €10,000 reference account before May closed +€1,629 (simulated, 2010–2025), is a decision a person has to make. If that shape suits you, start with I Don’t Want to Trade. Can I Still Use Kestrel Expert Advisor?; the alternative that avoids installing anything is compared in Is Copy Trading Profitable? Frequently asked questions
Does Daemon Digital LLC trade my account for me?
No: Kestrel is software. You keep your account, your broker and your money, and we never manage funds. Nobody at Daemon Digital LLC has access to your account or can move money in or out of it.
Can I stop it once it is running?
Yes, at any time. Removing the expert advisor from the chart stops new decisions, and closing the open positions is done from your own terminal like any manual trade. You do not need anyone's permission.
What does the record actually show?
A simulation of the strategy over historical data, with every figure published alongside its period and its feed, plus two demo accounts running since September 2026. It is not a live account record, and it is not a forecast.
